Sustainability and social responsibility
Aware of the impact of its economic activity in the tourism sector, as well as its impact on the local community in which it operates and its contribution to the Portuguese business landscape, Hotel Rainha D. Amélia Arts & Leisure**** defines its Sustainability Policy based on ESG metrics – Environmental, Social, and Governance, essential for sustainable development and in line with the objectives set by the Member States, including Portugal, as outlined in the United Nations' 2030 Agenda.
Waste Management
Ensuring sustainable waste management:
· Prioritising the purchase of larger volume packaging whenever possible;
· Replacing plastic with biodegradable materials;
· Managing waste through licensed companies that collect and recycle materials such as glass, plastic, cardboard, oils, etc.;
· Increasing the amount of waste that can be recycled, including plastic, metal, paper, cardboard, organic kitchen waste, and used cooking oil.
Water Resources
Ensuring proper water resource management:
· Analysing and monitoring consumption;
· Raising customer awareness of the environmental benefits of reducing consumption;
· Training staff on how to act in case of water leaks or abnormal consumption;
· Installing systems that reduce water consumption, such as sensors and flow reducers on taps, drip irrigation, or the use of sprinklers.
Energy Resources
Ensuring proper energy resource management:
· Using renewable energy sources;
· Analysing and monitoring consumption;
· Raising customer awareness of the environmental benefits of reducing consumption;
· Educating staff in case of abnormal energy consumption detection;
· Installing systems to help reduce consumption, such as motion sensor lights, LED bulbs, energy-efficient units in accommodation, motion detection sensors, and LED televisions;
· Providing electric car charging stations for guests at our premises;
· Upgrading our hotel facilities to reduce the impact in terms of construction and opting for solutions that enhance energy efficiency and reduce the ecological footprint;
· Using an automated outdoor lighting system regulated by natural light availability;
· Using solar panels;
· Promoting low-impact mobility by providing bicycles for all guests to use in nearby areas.
